Lawrence Gichini is a credentialed Stoma, Wound and Continence Nurse Specialist with over 14 years of clinical experience dedicated to improving the quality of life of ostomates and patients with complex wounds across East Africa.
He serves as the Clinical Lead for Stoma Therapy and Education at both Stoma World Kenya and the East Africa Community Ostomy Association (EACOA), where he provides clinical leadership in the development of evidence-based ostomy care standards, professional education programs, and patient advocacy initiatives. In this role, he guides the organisations' clinical direction, ensuring that ostomy care services, training, and community programs meet internationally recognised standards of practice.
Lawrence has led numerous capacity-building programs for nurses, healthcare providers, and patient communities, strengthening the ability of health systems to deliver safe and effective ostomy care in both hospital and community settings. His work places strong emphasis on patient empowerment, stigma reduction, and improving long-term outcomes for ostomates.
In addition to his clinical and educational roles, he contributes to research development, health data synthesis, and clinical knowledge dissemination within the field of stoma therapy. His work supports the generation, organisation, and responsible use of clinical data to inform policy, improve care standards, and advance ostomy care practice across the region.
Leads clinical direction, develops evidence-based ostomy care standards, and ensures services meet international best practice across the region.
Drives professional education programs and capacity-building for nurses and healthcare providers across Kenya's ostomy care network.
Contributes to research development, health data synthesis, and clinical knowledge dissemination to inform regional policy and care standards.
Works to strengthen ostomy care systems, expand access to specialised stoma therapy services, and empower patients and communities throughout East Africa.
