Vice Chairman, EACOA | Chairman, Stoma World Kenya
Mr. Tarsim Singh Devgun is a colon cancer survivor, community advocate, and semi-retired businessman dedicated to improving the lives of ostomates across East Africa. Born and raised in Kenya and educated in the United Kingdom, he has developed a strong passion for community service, particularly in supporting individuals living with ostomies.
Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2009, Mr. Devgun's personal journey with a stoma gave him first-hand insight into the physical, emotional, and social challenges faced by ostomates. This experience inspired him to become a leading advocate for awareness, support, and improved access to ostomy care.
He currently serves as the Chairman of Stoma World Kenya, where he provides strategic leadership in advancing support programs, advocacy initiatives, and partnerships that benefit the ostomate community. Under his leadership, the organization has grown to support more than 600 members across Kenya, established the first stoma clinic in Eastern Africa, and received the prestigious World Ostomy Award in 2022.
In addition to his national leadership role, Mr. Devgun serves as the Vice Chairman of the East Africa Community Ostomy Association (EACOA), where he contributes to regional efforts aimed at strengthening collaboration, advocacy, and support for ostomates across East Africa.
Through his advocacy, Mr. Devgun has played an important role in championing policy improvements, including the recognition of permanent colostomy patients as persons living with disabilities and the inclusion of ostomy supplies within Kenya's Social Health Insurance Fund.
Guided by both personal experience and professional expertise, Mr. Devgun continues to work toward a future where every ostomate has access to quality healthcare, affordable supplies, and the support needed to live with dignity and confidence.
