Walter Otim Robinson

Board Member, EACOA | Ostomy Advocate

Walter Otim Robinson is an ostomy advocate and board member of the East Africa Community Ostomy Association (EACOA), committed to supporting and empowering ostomates across the East African region.

Walter's advocacy journey began through his personal experience with colorectal cancer, which led to life-saving surgery and a permanent ostomy. After undergoing numerous medical tests and eventually a major operation, Walter embraced life with an ostomy bag as a second chance to live and contribute meaningfully to society.

His journey was marked by emotional, physical, and social challenges, including stigma that forced him to leave his previous office job. However, with the support of his family — especially his wife, children, and close relatives — he found the strength to rebuild his life and become a voice for others facing similar experiences.

Walter believes strongly that early detection, open communication with medical professionals, and proper counseling are essential for patients preparing for life with a stoma. He emphasizes that having an ostomy does not prevent someone from living a full and productive life.

Today, Walter dedicates his time to raising awareness about colorectal cancer and ostomy care, encouraging people to seek early diagnosis and break the stigma surrounding ostomy. He works closely with regional organizations and communities to promote education, support networks, and dignity for ostomates.

"Ostomy is not the end of life." Through advocacy, humility, and resilience, Walter continues to inspire others to embrace life with confidence and hope.
